Sonya Sytnyk is a singer and songwriter from Leipzig, Germany.
Her musical style is a mixture of influences from jazz and modern pop, which together with her powerful and warm soulful voice shape her unmistakable sound. Sonya says: "Jazz music plays a very special role in my life - I like the freedom, the versatility of the sounds and melodies in jazz. They are the basis for my songwriting."
Sonya grew up in the heart of Ukraine – Kyiv, where she also took her first musical steps at the School of Jazz and Pop Arts of Kyiv. The young singer says: "I remember the time in Kyiv very well and always with a smile. For my mother, the proximity to the music school was particularly important when we moved there. On the very first day after our move, we visited the music school and I enrolled in piano lessons."
In 2019, she began her pop singing studies at the R. Glier Municipal Music Academy, Kyiv.
A year later, Sonya moved to Leipzig, Germany to study jazz singing at the University of Music and Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig.
During her studies, Sonya was awarded a scholarship by a Grammy-nominated vocal group "The New York Voices". She was also a soloist in the Berlin Youth Jazz Orchestra from March 2022 to November 2023.
In 2022, Sonya received a scholarship for an exchange year at the Zurich University of the Arts, where she studied jazz-pop singing.
Releasing her first single "Be your shelter", Sonya represents her first step into her solo career.
