"one more great visit as I leave D.C.!"

I am leaving DC but am happy to have had a 4th (!) visit to this excellent venue. Am also happy to recommend it after repeated visits and will plan to be back when I have occasion to be in DC. Obviously would not have come so many times if it had been anything but the best of music experiences. My thanks to the host!

"A third visit!"

I keep coming back because the experience is so satisfying . Today I spent some time comparing two very fine but different pianos at my leisure. A delightful experience—for the third time. It would be great if there were more participants offering piano space in DC for pianos, but meanwhile if there is to be only one, it is terrific that at that one place, the pianos and space and hospitality are so outstanding.

"I came back immediately to this great space"

I am in Washington DC for several days, and fortunately there is this one opportunity to practice the piano on two fine instruments in a superb setting . I came back and am planning to return every day that other commitments do not interfere. Thanks to MT and a most generous host for expanding into DC!

"Could not have been better!"

Could not have been better! Two beautiful grand pianos, a gracious host, lovely room. I have been at a number of sites through Music Traveler, with excellent results, but even among other fine experiences, none as good as this. Highly recommended without hesitation!

"Generous man"

The host there only charges $1 for one-hour practicing on two grand pianos, which is a very generous and altruistic offer for all music lovers. Besides, this place is neat, well-organized and has a lot of music literatures along with sheet musics.

"Great place to practice"

Really enjoyed practicing in this clean, quiet, and well-maintained room. The studio is conveniently located in a quiet residential area with ample street parking. The host was very friendly and accommodating. The two grand pianos are well-tuned and I liked practicing on both. Mason & Hamlin has mellow, intimate tone while Bosendorfer concert grand has bright tone color. Would love to book again and practice more in the near future.

"Ideal practice space"

This Arlington in-home studio is the perfect practice getaway: two quality pianos, a spacious quiet room with natural light, and a knowledgeable engaging host.

"Great Space, Highly Recommend!"

Mr. Peter was very kind and welcoming. The pianos were high quality, and the room was spacious and neat. Great area to practice in, will be coming back again soon!

"Review of Practice Space"

I was in Washing D.C. for a piano competition and was in need of a practice space. I was delighted to discover that Peter's space was available and was thrilled to have such a beautiful space to practice in. He has two gorgeous grand pianos which are kept up immaculately (thank you!) and the space is big and full of light and is a fantastic practice space. Peter was also an incredible host. I will definitely book again next time I am in D.C. Vivienne

"Wonderful Private Studio Space"

A private, quiet and clean studio space to rehearse chamber music or piano repertoire, including two-piano works. The grand pianos are both excellent instruments in fine playing condition. The room is sound-isolated from the rest of the house, and the host is charming and respectful. This studio is worth a short taxi or Uber ride from downtown.

Description

From December 25, 2021: In view of the swift expansion of omicron COVID in Arlington, no new bookings will be taken until further notice.
(From December 15, 2021: The studio is open for fully vaccinated individuals; if the second COVID does is more than 6 months in the past, all the individuals in the party must also have a booster shot. We ask also that you not make a booking if you will have travelled internationally in the two weeks prior to the desired date, or will have travelled nationally using public transport (train/plane/bus) in the week prior to the desired date.)

The pianos: We bought the Bösendorfer 225 (7' 4") new in 2001, and the Mason & Hamlin BB (7') new in 2018. Both are meticulously tuned and regulated.

The studio: Family room with natural light in a stand-alone house, three windows, about 431 square feet. The studio is in the southern half of the house, which has been sound isolated from the northern half, so we will not disturb you, nor you us. The studio is good for individual practice, for teaching, for studio recitals, for chamber music ensembles, for vocal rehearsals or for small concerts. The room has a music stand. Can seat 10 chamber musicians or an audience of 20, for whom chairs can be brought from upstairs. Audio playback facilities; Wi-Fi available (code on the computer desk).

There are two bookcases with much of the standard piano, chamber, song and choral literature. Please feel free to use these, taking care to return the scores to their alphabetical place.

A pitcher of iced water and glasses are provided in the studio. An adjoining restroom is available.

The location: In a suburb, five miles from the White House in Washington DC; thence it takes about twelve minutes by Uber/Lyft. Wide streets so that there is always plenty of untimed free parking. Two miles from the Courthouse Metro; 700 yards (ten minutes' walk) to the nearest bus stop.

Rules

Please remove shoes; we follow the Japanese custom of providing slippers for all guests. No smoking. Please do not consume food or drink except the iced water which is provided. Please close both doors of the studio to prevent sound transfer to the rest of the house. Acoustic music is welcome but not electronic amplification. We would be glad if you leave the room in the state you would like to find it upon entry. We would be grateful if you arrive and leave on time. If you are not known to us, we shall ask you to show your COVID vaccination card showing the two or three doses as appropriate, and shall also inquire about travel plans during the two weeks prior to the desired date.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations made 24 hours or more before the booking will receive a full refund.
No refund is provided for cancellations within 24 hours.
