Grand Piano
Two Pianos
Washington D.C., US
Grand Piano, Two PianosFrom December 25, 2021: In view of the swift expansion of omicron COVID in Arlington, no new bookings will be taken until further notice.
(From December 15, 2021: The studio is open for fully vaccinated individuals; if the second COVID does is more than 6 months in the past, all the individuals in the party must also have a booster shot. We ask also that you not make a booking if you will have travelled internationally in the two weeks prior to the desired date, or will have travelled nationally using public transport (train/plane/bus) in the week prior to the desired date.)
The pianos: We bought the Bösendorfer 225 (7' 4") new in 2001, and the Mason & Hamlin BB (7') new in 2018. Both are meticulously tuned and regulated.
The studio: Family room with natural light in a stand-alone house, three windows, about 431 square feet. The studio is in the southern half of the house, which has been sound isolated from the northern half, so we will not disturb you, nor you us. The studio is good for individual practice, for teaching, for studio recitals, for chamber music ensembles, for vocal rehearsals or for small concerts. The room has a music stand. Can seat 10 chamber musicians or an audience of 20, for whom chairs can be brought from upstairs. Audio playback facilities; Wi-Fi available (code on the computer desk).
There are two bookcases with much of the standard piano, chamber, song and choral literature. Please feel free to use these, taking care to return the scores to their alphabetical place.
A pitcher of iced water and glasses are provided in the studio. An adjoining restroom is available.
The location: In a suburb, five miles from the White House in Washington DC; thence it takes about twelve minutes by Uber/Lyft. Wide streets so that there is always plenty of untimed free parking. Two miles from the Courthouse Metro; 700 yards (ten minutes' walk) to the nearest bus stop.
Please remove shoes; we follow the Japanese custom of providing slippers for all guests. No smoking. Please do not consume food or drink except the iced water which is provided. Please close both doors of the studio to prevent sound transfer to the rest of the house. Acoustic music is welcome but not electronic amplification. We would be glad if you leave the room in the state you would like to find it upon entry. We would be grateful if you arrive and leave on time. If you are not known to us, we shall ask you to show your COVID vaccination card showing the two or three doses as appropriate, and shall also inquire about travel plans during the two weeks prior to the desired date.
