Miu Ishikawa began her musical journey in Japan. She completed her B.M. study at New England Conservatory, where she studied with Prof. HaeSun Paik, and currently pursuing a M.M. degree at the Yale School of Music under the tutelage of Prof. Boris Slutsky.
After winning prizes at numerous competitions in Japan such as Tokyo International Piano Competition, Concert Marronnier 21, and the Osaka International Music Competition, she was invited to several international competitions overseas such as Hilton Head International Piano Competition in 2017, as a finalist at New York International Piano Competition and at the 2nd Betty Dickinson Piano Competition. Recent achievements include winning the third prize at 2023 Pacific Stars International Piano Competition, the second prize at Texas State International Piano Festival and a recital opportunity in Blanco Performing Arts, Texas.
She has also studied in masterclasses with renowned teachers such as Michelle Cann, Dina Yoffe, Mikhail Voskresensky, Julian Martin, Robert McDonald, Erik T.Tawaststjerna, Yong-Hi Moon, Emanuel Ax, Piotr Paleczny, and Soo-Jung Shin.
Her musical repertoire does not limit to solo classical piano. She has always been an enthusiastic chamber musician and enjoys collaborating with various kind of instruments from duo to large ensembles. Additionally, she is a serious listener of jazz and trying to train herself, but finds it difficult.
Outside of music, she is passionate about learning about psychology and neuroscience of musicians and has been taking psychology classes at Yale College for one year. From her own experiences and what others talk to her, she is eager to master this area and get to help young and achieved musicians with their mental wellness in the future.
