Biography

A versatile pianist, Riko Higuma made her debut in the U.S. as a soloist with the Fort Worth Symphony. She is the founding member of the prize-winning Zodiac Trio and has collaborated with world's leading artists such as Aaron Rosand, Cho-Liang Lin, Alan Gilbert, Dora Schwarzberg, Timothy Eddy, Jeffrey Solow, Dmitri Sitkovetsky, Ray Chen, Leonidas Kavakos and notably, she has been engaged by the New York Philharmonic numerous times as a collaborative pianist. She has appeared in various festivals around the world, such as Lidal North/Norwegian Opera House, Zodiac Academy & Festival/France, La Jolla Chamberfest, New Music On the Point (as a member of the American Modern Ensemble) and Festival New DOCTA/Argentina.  As a member of the Zodiac Trio, she has appeared in such venues as Festival Radio France Montpellier, International Colmar Festival, Ottawa Chamberfest, Edinburgh Festival, Shanghai Oriental Performing Arts Center, Beijing National Performing Arts Center, Le Poisson Rouge; performance broadcasts include France 3 Television, Canada’s CBC Radio and Television, WQXR, WGBH, and Radio France.  She studied with Phillip Kawin at the ManhattanSchool of Music and chamber music with the Ysaye String Quartet in their Superior Chamber Music Program in Paris. Currently she is engaged as a staff pianist and vocal coach at the Manhattan School of Music
