Description

Originally the palace’s great banqueting hall, the Baroque Haydnsaal is the jewel in the crown of Esterházy Palace. Its unique acoustics and atmosphere inspired the composer Joseph Haydn, who served the Esterházy princes for over forty years, to create his peerless music. Joseph Haydn, “father of the string quartet” and “virtuoso of the ensemble”, composed masses, operas, symphonies, chamber music and Hausmusik for the aristocratic family, including the legendary Emperor Quartet that was first played in Eisenstadt in 1797. The Haydn Hall is considered the heart of the palace. It is not only used for internationally renowned concerts but also for a wide variety of events. As rich as the spectrum of events is, as changeable is the atmosphere in the hall itself. Up to 650 guests can be seated here, and state-of-the-art technology and individual lighting ensure that the Haydnsaal is always illuminated differently.
