Biografie

Pianist Walter Fischbacher is a multi-hyphenate artist based in New York City. Piano is his first discipline, and as a pianist Fischbacher has been busy touring the world. His most recent album titled “Moments” is his first solo effort in an illustrious career as band leader, sideman, and duo partner.

Hailing from Austria, Mr. Fischbacher has been a New Yorker by choice since 1994. After classical and jazz piano studies in Vienna he decided that he needed to go deeper, to get to the source of jazz and relocated to New York. Years of touring with his trio Phishbacher and multiple CDs followed, most notably his debut as a leader “Chillin” (2003, Lofish Music), book-ended by his most celebrated CD “Dreamcatcher” (2014, Lofish Music). In 2000, Fischbacher added “recording studio owner” to his resume when he founded Lofish Studios together with his wife, jazz vocalist Elisabeth Lohninger. As a mixing and mastering engineer he grew an impressive client list that included artists such as renowned jazz pianist Michael Kanan, singer-songwriter Nellie McKay, bassist Neal Miner, guitarist Greg Ruggerio, and jazz vocalist Marianne Solivan. The studio closed its doors in 2015 after 15 successful years in business.

In recent years Fischbacher has mounted multiple tours as music director/pianist/sound engineer, presenting American jazz vocalists in Europe.

His solo program is described as “simple melodies embedded in virtuoso piano playing, a collage of musical styles from classical music to jazz to funk” (press release). Walter Fischbacher's style and repertoire have matured throughout the decades, telling of a life lived in dedication to music, uncompromising and authentic, just like the man himself.
