Biografie

Born in September 2009 in South Korea, cellist Jieon Lee is an emerging young artist known for her expressive playing and musical depth. She studied at Yewon School, where she received the Performance Excellence Award for three consecutive years and was selected to represent the school in annual concerts. She is currently preparing to continue her studies at the Curtis Institute of Music. In 2024, Jieon was awarded the Landgraf von Hessen-Preis at the Kronberg Academy in Germany. She has taken part in masterclasses with world-renowned cellists, including Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt (Blackmore Academy), Miklós Perényi (2024 PyeongChang MPyC Academy), and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi (János Starker 100th Anniversary Festival). As a Kumho Young Artist, Jieon has received numerous accolades in international competitions, including: • Grand Prize, Asia Tchaikovsky Competition • 1st Prize and Highest Score, Antonio Janigro Cello Competition • 1st Prize and Special Jury Award, Gustav Mahler Prize Competition • Grand Prize and Exceptional Young Talent Award, Virtuoso International Music Competition • Grand Prize, New York Artist International Competition, among others. She has performed as a soloist with Kremerata Baltica at the Casals Forum in Kronberg and appeared at major venues including Elbphilharmonie, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and Jordan Hall. She has also performed with the Incheon Philharmonic, Kimpo Philharmonic, and the Yewon School Orchestra.
